  • How do I know if I’m eligible?
  • Students from select international partner universities are eligible to participate in the GREAT Program. Students must have:
    -Excellent academic credentials (a minimum 3.4 grade point average on a 4.0 scale)
    -Demonstrated interest in the relevant research fields
    -High ranking and recommendation from the home university
    -Strong communication skills
    -English proficiency of 550 TOEFL or the equivalent
  • Will I earn academic credit?
  • Students in the program will earn academic credits at the end of the program if their host faculty determines that their performance was satisfactory. Students will also obtain a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program if they have performed satisfactorily in their research experience and in their final presentation.
  • When does the program start?
  • The GREAT Summer Research Program starts in mid July and runs for approximately 8 weeks.
  • Is there an application deadline?
  • Yes, you need to contact the International Office at your home university by December 1 to be nominated for the program.
  • Will anyone help me with the I-20 document and F-1 visa process?

  • Where will I live?
  • The International Housing Office can assist you with a variety of housing options, including homestay and apartments. With a homestay arrangement, you will live with a local family and experience an American family lifestyle. You can also rent out a room with a Davis family or in an apartment. Renting a room is an excellent opportunity to live with others who are not part of the International Programs.
  • What is life like in Davis?
  • Students in the UC Davis GREAT Summer Research Program can participate in UC Davis student life. Along with the challenges of their research activities, they can also join campus events and recreational activities. For information about student life at UC Davis, visit our Student Life website.
