The majority of UC Davis students bike to class, and many of the permanent Davis residents also choose to bike. A bike can get you across a large campus (like UC Davis) to class very quickly and on-time. Bike lanes and bike paths can make riding to and from campus a pleasure. Whether you plan to rent or purchase a bike, here is some information to help you.
When riding a bike you should have:
- A bike helmet
- A bike lock (U-lock recommended)
- Bike lights (required after dark)
IMPORTANT: Please remember that you are required to have a bike light after dark. If you do not have a bike light, the police could pull you over and fine you, and it’s an expensive fine. When riding a bike in Davis, remember that you are required to follow the rules of the road. Many students get fined for not making a complete stop at a stop sign. Remember to make a full stop before proceeding through an intersection! The Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) on campus has created the Rules of the Road, which serves as a guidelines for cyclists in Davis. Here are some other very helpful bike safety resources to help you navigate the traffic and road rules in Davis.
